OSMF ( oral sub mucous fibrosis )
Oral sub mucous fibrosis is an oral precancerous condition characterised by inflammation and progressive fibrosis of the sub mucosal tissue resulting in marked rigidity and trismus.
Causes:-
- Habit of betal nut ( areca nut)chewing
- Gutkha chewing
stages:-
- Stage 1 interincisial opening more than 30 mm
- Stage 2 interincisial opening between 21 to 30 mm
- Stage 3 interincisial opening less than 20 mm
Signs:-
- Restriction in mouth opening
- Burning sensation
- Bleaching of mucosa
- Pain
- Ulceration
Treatments:-
- Medicines (vitamins and anti oxidants)
- Corticosteroids
- Hyaluronidase and placentral extracts
In Servere cases
- Laser treatment
- Surgical treatments
